I shouldn’t have walked away
{chapter 1}
Both
sat there and Katie just waited for Lauren to begin, but Lauren didn’t. “Not
telling me is not a way of solving the problem.” Said Katie. “I know” said
Lauren and sobbed. “It started when I was young, about 12 years old. I met
that 14-year-old guy at school who was the first person who was nice to me there.
I was an outsider, I mean he was too, but he had friends unless me who didn’t.”
she smiled” Later he told me that he had a crush on me. that’s why he came
talking to me in first place. And I don’t know, we started getting closer and
closer and soon we were the best friends. Nobody could separate us.”
**FLASHBACK**
“Hey, how are you?” asked 14-year-old Nick.
“Good and you?” asked 12-year-old Lauren.
“You have pretty hair!” said Nick blushing.
“Thank you!” said Lauren smiling.
“I have noticed you sitting here alone by yourself, want to come over to me
and my friends?” asked Nick.
“Sure!” said Lauren happy. “Does that mean we are friends?” she asked.
“Yeah” said Nick and looked weirdly at her but then shrugged.
**FLASHBACK END**
“I was so young and silly back then!” said Lauren. “Since then we were
always there for each other. My stupidness brought us together and apart.” She
said now sad looking. “Id bite my own but if I could!”
**FLASHBACK**
“But I don’t want to see that movie, Lauree, it’s a chick flick! I am a
boy, I like action movies!” whined Nick. “Nick, you don’t have to act like
Mr. Superboy or something like that. When we’re at home, you always like to
watch those movies with me!” said Lauren with her hands on her hips. “Shush!”
whispered Nick “Are you trying to embarrass me in front of the cinema?”
“Not if you come in with me, right now!” said Lauren. “Ok” said Nick
“But only because you’re my best friend.”
So they went into the cinema and sat there in the dark. Nick watched Lauren
during the whole movie but she was to busy watching the movie to notice it. When
they walked home Nick took her hand. So they walked home hand in hand but Lauren
didn’t think it would mean more for Nick than just taking her hand as a friend.
**FLASCHBACK END**
“We always went out together, as friends. Whe people were talking about us
being a couple we were always laughing and shaking our heads no, though I
sometimes wished he was my boyfriend. But…he didn’t feel the same…”
Lauren said. “How do you know that he didn’t feel the same?” asked Katie.
“I felt it. I mean, he talked to me like he talked to his guyfriends, and I
don’t think he was in love with them!” answered Lauren, grinning a little
bit. “Anyway…someday he and some other guys established a music group called
‘the backstreet boys’. Since that time he was away a lot but we still
managed to keep in touch. The group grew very successful so one day he went on
world tour for a very long time. When he came back he was so good looking and so
sweet to me that I totally fell in love with him. But he didn’t seem to feel
the same way and so I was heartbroken. I cried every night. And everyday I
smiled, just for him, to see me smile, because, he had told me that he loved my
smile. I wanted him to be happy so I smiled as much as I could.” She said.
“Are you saying that you were best friends with Nick Carter?” asked Katie.
“Yup. You got it. I was best friends and in love with Nick Carter, who about
millions of other girls love too.” Lauren answered.
**FLASHBACK**
It’s night, Lauren and Nick are lying on a blanket on the beach and watching
the stars.
“You know, every time you smile, a new star appears.” Said Nick, pointing at
the sky.
Lauren smiled. “Yeah, that’s what I mean.” Said Nick “You should smile
more often. I love your smile. It’s a smile that lights up the world on a
rainy day.” He looked her deep in the eyes and touched her cheek but then laid
back, looked at the sky again and sighed.
