Chapter Five
“Oh
God, she saw me!” muttered Brian, dropping the curtain.
Great! So now she was going to think he was one of those nosy neighbours always
twitching at their curtains. Or, even worse, she might think he was some kind of
freak. Brian kicked himself mentally. Yeah, just his luck to make a total arse
out of himself in front of a total random stranger! I mean, he hadn’t intended
to stare like that, but he’d seen the car pulling up outside and had wondered
who it was – it was a natural thing to be curious.
“You stupid dick,” said Brian to himself. “Why don’t you just sit down
and watch TV or something like most normal people do?! Ok fine I will,” he
answered to himself. God! I really am a nerd, he thought. I stand spying on my
probable new neighbour AND then I start talking to myself.
“I wasn’t spying,” he told himself, flicking on the TV. “I was just
wondering of she was a burglar … STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF!” yelled loudly,
smacking himself in the forehead. Focus on the god-damned TV like most normal
people do – that’s what it’s there for. But he couldn’t. All he could
think about was that girl. Who was she and why was she there? Secretly, Brian
began to hope that she was his new neighbour … I mean, she looked a lot of fun;
she looked really cool, with a very pretty, smiley face. And shoulder length
brown hair, cut into a bob. Brian supposed she must be quite young, but then
again – why on earth would a girl that age be moving into a house like that by
herself?
“Aaaaah, I get it,” he thought out loud. “I bet she’s moving in with her
boyfriend and that he’s coming later to join her!” Brian nodded. There was
no way a gorgeous girl like that would be moving into a house by herself.
And he was right. But just not in the way he thought.
