Ok - so here it is, Friday of the week I/we just spent without the kids and you know what? We want them back!!!! Both Michael and I are really missing them badly. It's been a test not to call and infringe on their time with Grandma. In fact, I did cave on Wednesday but they weren't home, they were off galavanting somewhere, of course. My Mom did email me and keep me updated as to what they've been doing and it sounds like they are going to come home good and tired. Brewer games, hot tubbing, movies, a visit to the zoo, scrapbooking, playing with their cousins, swimming, sleepovers, rummage saleing, etc. I can barely keep up. I'm sure I'll have many details to write about once they are home, and some pictures to post. They both took a disposable camera and Taylor has her digital, so stay tuned for an update. Thank you Mom. Between you and Joe, and all my lovely brothers and sisters, this will be another week they won't forget in Fredonia. How special you all are and how good to us.
As for Michael and I? Well, the time alone has been very nice! I'll just let your imagination take it from there. We've cooked out, relaxed on the deck with music, had a firepit, read books, quilted (that part is mine), and had some great conversations. Uninterrupted, I might add. But all in all, we are anxious for the kids to return. We've even taken to giving the dogs more attention than usual, and it's a glimpse into what life will be like when "empty nest" hits. An old couple in their rocking chairs not talking about their kids anymore, but about the dogs! Sad - but funny and true. We've had some jokes over it.
With it being kind of drizzly this week, we also rented a few movies, and I have to put in a "plug" for this one..."The Phantom of the Opera". It was .... in a word ... FABULOUS. Michael watched it with me under protest, as it is a musical, and I think it has now become a top favorite of his. He's watched it twice! It is by far one of the most romantic movies we've seen, and we don't know why. Most likely because of the phenomenal music. I really liked it on the stage but didn't think I'd like it on the screen, however Andrew Lloyd Webber's music is timeless and knows no bounds. So for those of you who haven't seen it, and if you have a chance, we both truly encourage you to watch it. It's fantastic. So much so that we have been humming the songs, and even broke out my old Andrew Lloyd Webber CD's and have been listening to them. No kids around to protest, you know. However, Michael has plans to have the kids watch it this weekend. They both like music, and he/we like to broaden their horizons. Besides, it will give him an excuse to watch it a 3rd time!
My Mom and her friend Joe are bringing the kids back Saturday morning, and Nick starts his first football practice. I'm thinking we'll cook out on the grill, have a firepit and listen to the Packer game. If the weather cooperates - it just might rain..................................... nah.
Then next week, the kids are starting to break back into the autumn schedule. Nick will be working in his old classroom on Monday, helping his teacher set up for her new class this year. He volunteered at the end of last year and has been looking forward to it. They will get their sports physicals, and Taylor will have her Middle School orientation. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll be using the last of my comp time on Thursday and Friday to do our usual last summer hooray. School shopping and ...... any ideas? I'm not sure what to do with them this year. I'm thinking of either going to Duluth to the indoor carnival place, or mini-golfing. Hmmmm... I guess the weather will dictate. If you have any ideas please feel free to share them. The older they get, the harder it is for me to come up with fresh ideas.
Love you all. The next time you hear from me my children will be back in my arms!!!! |
