What a wonderfully relaxing weekend. Every Christmas, 2 weeks ahead of the holiday, we have our family Christmas. The older kids come home with their families, we decorate the tree, play lots of games, bell ring, do fondue, cocoa around the fire, exchange gifts and many other fun traditions. It's by far one of everybody's favorite weekend of the year. And by having our family Christmas early, no one is torn between families, everyone can relax and it forces me to have EVERYTHING done ahead of time. Shopping, wrapping, baking, etc. - ALL DONE. Except for Christmas Cards but those are easy. However those weeks preparing for it are exhausting. But now is when I get to kick back and relax and enjoy the season. Unfortunately our family is fighting a bug in our house. We all have sore throats, aches, pains, tiredness, etc. All but Michael that is. He swears by his Vitamin C - and probably rightly so.
Anyhow - the gang arrived Friday night and we all dug into the fondue. I kicked butt in the Trivial Pursuit game and even beat King Michael. However to his defense, it was the pop culture version and it's very tough if you ask me.
Saturday we just hung out and relaxed, as I was starting to really not feel well. Michael and Mike made goose jerky which was fantastic. Taylor and Nick were pretty squirrely all day as gift opening was Saturday night, so we kept them occupied with some games. I think that they'll tell you that it was worth the wait though, as they were absolutely thrilled with their gifts. Tay got the original Sims game and Nick got the NCAA Football game for his Playstation...we haven't seen them since. hahahaha - Just kidding! Sort of. But we can see that we are going to have to enforce some time limitations on them. As for me, I got a beautiful handmade hat, scarf and mitten set from Kendie and Mike. Michael got a great gun case. Both of which Kendie made. We truly love them.
Unfortunately Neely and the girls weren't there but we did get to see the girls the week prior and give them their gifts. I'll put all the pictures on the web soon. The reason it takes me so long getting pictures on is because there is some type of pop-up blocker that doesn't allow me to bring up the software at home. I can't figure out how to change the setting. So I always have to download the pics at home, send them to my work address and then put them on during my lunch hour. And with the Kettle Campaign going on, I'm not having too many available lunch hours. But I'll keep persevering and do my best.
Taylor sang in church again on Sunday as will they both this coming week. If I can get videos on the web I will; Michael recorded her. But soon after brunch on Sunday, everyone headed home and we eagerly awaited the Packer slaughter on Sunday night. hee hee. Can you believe it? We won! Although now we won't get the good draft picks but hey - a wins a win.
So that's our weekend in a nutshell. Looking ahead, Taylor has her band concert this Friday that she is very excited for, and next Tuesday is Nick's Winter Sing and Tay's violin concert. Such musical kids we have.
But that's it from here. We are expecting a snow storm tomorrow, about 6-9 inches. I'm excited. The kids only have half a day of school. So after I'm done on the radio tomorrow (P.R. for the Kettle Campaign), the kids and I are heading home. We'll either be all snowed in by the fire or out sledding until we can't. I better stock up on some cocoa!
Here's wishing you all a joyful and relaxing Christmas season. Drink lots of cocoa, play lots of Christmas songs, shout many holiday wishes to strangers, drop money in those buckets, watch all the holiday specials and most importantly praise the Lord for all of it. Bumbles bounce!
