Our Sherret Family
Back to the Index
In the last 5 years, I've concentrated on turning up as much as I can about my Scottish ancestors.

The Scots come from my mother's maternal line- her maternal grandfather immigrated from Scotland to Canada via New York's famous Ellis Island port, leaving Scotland in 1897. By 1906,
he was living in British Columbia, Canada, and had applied to take over a homestead application
near Lethbridge, Alberta. He was living on his homestead during the farming season, and going back to Fernie, British Columbia, to work and save more money for his enterprise during the bitterly cold winter months.
Here is a brief  overview of the family and what we know of it:
Charles SHERRET married Helen Young in 1822 in Scotland. (IGI entry and OPR entry on Scotland's People)

They had several children,  including:
-Charles b. 1822
-Elizabeth b. 1823
-Alexander b. 1825
-
William, b. 1826
-
John b. approx. 1831

*Please note- I thank Cousin Anne in Scotland for the above information- please click on William, above, to find out more about Anne's connection to my SHERRET family.

I suspect there may have been other children as well, but they have yet to be turned up!

John SHERRET, son of Charles Sherret and Helen Young, married Elizabeth TODD (daughter of Charles Todd and Charlotte Alexander) in 1858, also in Scotland. This union brought about a large family.
