Although my mother's the expert on the Roo family, I'm going to try to give what information I can remember.
Fred Roo was the son of James Roo and ?. He was born in Methley, Yorkshire, England, and immigrated to Canada. A family story has it that when he left England, he told the relatives there that he was going to Canada to start a trading post with the "red indians" (Native Canadians).
In 1886, he married Mary RODEN at Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario, Canada. Click here to learn more about Mary's family. Over the years, Fred and Mary slowly made their way west to British Columbia. Along the way, they had several children:
