Joseph Roden was born xx xxxxxx xxxx at xxxxxx, xxxx, England. His parents were xxxxxxx xxx and xxxxx xxx. In xxxx, he married Maria Spencer (Source: Lori Frederickson), and they had several children: xxxxxx, Richard, and Mary.

In 1879, Maria and the two youngest children, Richard and Maria, left England on the
Texas (boat), and landed at xxxxxx. (Source: Passenger list of the Texas, September 1879; microfilmed by xxxxxxxx -Found by Amber de Jong). It is unknown whether they were joining Joseph, already in Canada, or if he was to follow them to Canada.

In 1881, the census of Canada, province of Ontario, finds the family living together at Sliver Islet, in Ontario's xxxxxx county. (Source: LDS 1881 Canadian Census CD series- Found by Amber de Jong)

In 1886, Joseph and Maria's daughter, Mary, married Fred Roo, another Englishman, (Source: Marriage certificate of Fred Roo and Mary Roden- Found by James Sandham) who had come to Canada in xxxx "to start a trading post with the red Indians." (according to family stories).

In xxxx, Fred and Mary were in Manioba. Their first child was xxxxxx, born xx xxxxxxx xxxx, in xxxxxxxxx, xxxx county. xx xxxxxxx xxxx, their 2nd child was born in xxxxx, xxxx county. On xx xxxxxx xxxx, child number 3 was born in xxxxxxx, xxxx county.
