| Elizabeth SHERRET born 1871. Elizabeth has been tracked through the 1881 and 1891 censuses. I believe she married in 1899, but do not yet have the paperwork to prove it. No further information is yet available on this sibling. : ( |
| Alexander SHERRET born 1873. Alexander has been difficult to track down... although I managed to trace him through the 1881 and 1891 censuses, I have not found him in the 1901 census yet. A family story says he joined the Army and went to India; however, there is nothing to prove this. As his sister Ann's husband was stationed in India before their marriage, it is definitely possible that after hearing stories of adventure and excitement in a far-away land, Alexander decided to check it out for himself. There is also a story that Alexander married an Indian woman, and perhaps had children, but, again, no proof yet. |
| Andrew SHERRET born 1875. Andrew has to be my favourite from this family! After all, he's my great-grandfather : ) I've traced him through the 1881 and 1891 censuses, and followed his 1897 voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to the port of Ellis Island in New York, where his brother Charles previously landed in 1893. From there, Andrew made his way across the United States, stopping in llinois long enough to become a member of Nunda Lodge #64, in Crystal Lake, just outside Chicago. (Interesting side note here- there was a family story about Andrew working in Chicago, so the discovery of him joining the Masonic Lodge in Crystal Lake is close enough to Chicago to believe the story.) Andrew became a Lodge member in 1904, and received the three degrees before leaving Crystal Lake and arriving in Canada by 1906 By 1906, Andrew was working in Hosmer, BC in the winter months, and had filed to take over a homestead in southern Alberta. Over the next several years, he worked his winters in Hosmer- saving as much money as he could- and improved his homestead near Coalhurst, Alberta during the warmer summer growing months. In 1909, he was granted the land patent for the homestead. By 1917, he had met and married my great-grandmother, Margaret Sandham. (Click here to find out more about Margaret.) Over the next 20 years, they had a number of children- some of whom are still alive today. In 1940, Andrew died in Lethbridge, Alberta, and was given a Masonic graveside service by the Diamond City Lodge. He is buried in the city cemetery in Lethbridge. At some point within the first few years after Andrew's death, Margaret met and married Robert (Bob) Jones. No information is available about Bob, other than publicly available information listing their places of residence from 1944 to 1953. After 1953, Bob and Margaret moved to British Columbia, settling in Cranbrook, with a number of Margaret's children, where they resided until Bob died (date unknown). Margaret died in Cranbrook in 1988, and is buried with Andrew and their first son, Charles, in Lethbridge. Their daughter Velda Mae was born in 1926, and married my grandfather in 1948. She died in 1965, and was buried in Cranbrook, British Columbia. My grandfather, Joseph Roden DESROSIERS, died in 1986, also in Cranbrook, where he is buried as well. | Margaret Charlotte SHERRET born 1875. She was named after her grandmother, Charlotte Alexander, and I've tracked her through the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses with no problem. She remained at home on the family farm, with Mary and James, and died as a spinster, without children, in 1927. Her brother James was the informant on her death registration, and she is remembered on the family memorial stone at Lunan, Scotland. |

| Ann SHERRET born 1869. Ann was very interesting to follow as well. I traced her through the 1881 and 1891 censuses, to her marriage to John CHRISTIE in 1895. John was a seargant in the 22nd Field Battery of the Royal Artillery, and his usual residence was Nasirbad, Bombay, India. His parents were John Christie (#1) and Catherine Brown. After they were married, they returned to India for a time, then home to Scotland to settle for good.Along the way, they had a number of children: -Catherine, born approx. 1897 and died 1902 -Annie, born approx. 1902 and died 1933 in Canada after saving a child from drowning -Jane -James -John, who was the informant for both Ann's and her husband (John Christie #2)'s deaths in 1939, in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. John #3's wife Isabella died in 1996, and John #3 died in 2000. They are both buried in Alexandria cemetery in the same lair as Ann and John #2. *Current family members have been contacted, living in the Glasgow area in Scotland. We met them in May, 2005 during our honeymoon.* |
