Like most teachers, I have a career and many jobs.  Teaching in a year-round, K-8, public school for one of the top districts in the state of California is rewarding and demanding.  Expectations are high from administrators, parents, peers, and students.  Our middle school enrollment is about 260 students.  With that in mind there are only 5 full-time credentialed teachers and 3 part-time teachers. We all perform multiple duties that a staff of 40 would normally cover.  My current assignment includes two 6th grade Language Arts classes; I act as advisor for the yearbook, and teach technology, art, and ceramic electives; finally, about 58% of my time is spent working as the Library/Media Specialist (Librarian) for the entire school of 750 students.  As Librarian, I am responsible for the education of all K-8 students and the development of technology, reading assessments, and book/materials collection development.  Making the best use of a part-time paid assistant and parent volunteers is on-going.  I write grants, post to the school web-site, sit on the Site Improvement Planning committee, and interface with the district for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students.  Additionally, I am asked to write several times a year for the district teacher publication, parent GATE publication, and articles for the school's monthly newsletter.  Teaching is continuous learning, evaluating, and assessing outcomes and results from projects and students.  It is what I do, but not who I am.  Teaching is one of my passions, learning is another.
