Combat Basics

Never played a game with Falcon Tor before? It is useful to know a few things about how our combat system works.

What is a hit?

We define a hit as anything which connects with your body and has force. “Force” means any amount of force: if you felt it, it hit you. That said, there are a few exceptions:

  • A shot which only strikes clothing is not counted, unless you intentionally block with your clothes.
  • A hit which merely slides along your body is called a ‘draw cut’ or ‘butter’ and also does not count.
  • If a weapon has a flexible core and bends around your block to hit you it is called ‘wiggling’ and does not count.

What are the hit locations?

Head/Neck - Out of bounds. Hits here do not count unless you purposefully block a shot this way, in which case it does.

Arms - Anything from the shoulder to the wrist. This disables the arm struck, so put it behind your back. If you are struck in the same arm twice, you’re dead.

Hands - If you are holding a weapon, you are assumed to have a handguard, and hits do not count. Otherwise treat hands as part of the Arm.

Torso - Includes the shoulders, chest, back, buttocks and groin. (Regretfully, groin shots count.) A hit to the torso kills you.

Legs - A hit to the leg requires that you drop to one knee and that that knee stay on the ground. Further hits to a dead leg have no effect.

Feet - If your foot is touching the ground, then hits to the foot do not count, otherwise treat as a leg hit.

Notes - Any two limb shots is a kill. Armor, when worn, counts as a “free” hit to the area it covers. Armor is rated 1-6, this being how many hits it absorbs.

I’ve just been thwacked, now what?

If you aren’t dead, keep fighting, otherwise report to Nirvana and count 300 seconds (“one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand”, etc.). This is called a “deathcount”. At the end of your deathcount, if you have any lives remaining, you may yell “Alive” and step back out onto the field.

Magic? Classes? What on Earth?

Falcon Tor has a system for using magic and for playing classes. These add a unique aspect for player in the game to help customize his character. Some classes use magic, others have cool abilities. All are fun. Ask the locals for help with understanding the Magic/Class system.

I’m tired of losing, how do I improve?

An excellent question! Practice, practice, practice! Continue to come out and fight each week. Ask more experienced fighters to show you the various tricks they use to beat you. We all love to show off!
