falafel was formed in mid-fall of 2002 in the small town of groveton, texas, by rj and wil. after recruiting brandon on drums, they went through several vocalists, most of them pathetic, before they discovered hawaii, who was currently singing with a local band called "jacket off." after playing several local shows, and being disqualified from the Groveton High School Talent Show for "excessive stage presence," falafel put together a 4-song demo, justly entitled "sparking controversy in high schools across america." also in pending release is a video for "care bear," a song off the "sparking controversy" demo.
