The Story of Sudhamani aka Amrithananda Mayi
Born in 1953 at Parayankadavu, Vallikkavu, Quilon, Kerala, India in a fisherman family. Named Sudhamani. Father : Sugunanandan and mother Damayanthi. They had 7 children altogether. Traditionally superstitious like any coastal family in Kerala who were also uneducated.

Stopped education after 4th standard. Started doing helping jobs at households but had to stop after being caught for petty thefts. Tried to learn dance for a while. Couldn't complete that. Then started weaving coir. Suffered epilepsy and was practically isolated and suffered from depression. Was treated bad by her own parents and had a hostile relationship with her mother. Like all superstitious people the parents tried to treat the disease with the help of a "mantravadi".

Soon Sudhamani started talking herself and was showing signs of hallucination. Started getting rid of her own clothes and used to walk naked near the sea shore. The hallucinations persisted and some started giving spiritual explanations for these. In her hallucinations she started seeing "Krishna" and having bodily contacts with "Krishna". But her own brother Subhagan was convinced that his sister was mentally sick.

In 1975 while passing by a religious recital (bhajana) she started acting like a possessed person (sign of mental disease Glossolalia). She started acting this role again and again. This was beginning of the creation of a godwoman. False stories were propagated (converting water to milk etc). Sudhamani's neighbours - Pavizhasena Panicker, Jithendran and VK Anandam - have all denied all of these miracle stories.

Sudhamani was on her revenge path against those who have mistreated here in her childhood. Soon the home was converted to an Ashram. Dressed like Krishna and gave "darshan" to others while she herself continued her illusions, hallucinations and delusions. Soon she started acting like a "devi" instead of "Krishna". She started receiving followers and started having physical ecstatic contacts with them . Obviously many followers enjoyed the physical contacts and kisses from the young spiritual leader! Still the operation was just confined to her village or at most Quilon district.

But not all were amused. Her own brother Subhagan (Sunilkumar) didn't like what was going on. She was accused of bringing bad name to the family. Subhagan didn't like his sister having physical close contacts with many strangers. Sudhamani predicted the death of Subhagan who was later found hanging on 2nd June 1978. There was no proper enquiry or postmortem. The death of Subhagan had mysteries around it.

Eventhough some local Keralites were enchanted by AmrithanandaMayi's activities, still it was comparatively small. Matha disappeared in the mid eighties from Kerala and spent some years at Puttaparthi, Sai Baba's abode. Then in the nineties she re-appeared in Kerala again.. This time with the support of a new species of devotees - foreigners with a lot of financial leverage! The scope of the operation was completely chamged.

The abode of Matha Mayi was expanded into a multi-storied mansion and the whole operation took the form of an international mafia. By now Matha known as ammachi in Tamil Nadu was running Computer Technical Institutes! Imagine the sphere of activity chosen by a 4th standard! It was very clear that some powerful forces have taken over Matha Mayi's operation.

Soon the Medical Hospital was founded in Cochin - again abundance of foreigners to control the operation. It is suspected that clandestine operations like organ transplant and sale are going on here! Matha's abode is also on the seashore --- providing easy and direct easy access from the Arabian sea for the foreign mafia.

Meantime several devotess disappared .. several met with mysterious deaths... none was investigated. The latest was that of Carloin Abitole a French female supposed to be fallen from a higher floor of Matha Mayi mansion! No investigation. No post mortem!

Today Matha Mayi has several top politicians as devotees - President Kalam, PM Vajpayee, Kerala Chief Minister AK Antony ... the list is endless. Mayi has also influence at the UN (!) and addressed the religious meeting there in Malayalam and was recently awarded a UN sponsored peace award!

There is also another side of Mayi story propagated by her devotees and the Trust. Amritha Trust has published her official biography written by Prof M Ramakrishnan Nair. The abridged English version is called "The Mother of Sweet Bliss". This is full of "Miracle Stories" . Here is a summary of this biography. Miracle in the Mother of Sweet Bliss
