St. Joseph, pray for us

Masculinity and Fatherhood

Last week's talk was given by Fr. Minton on the topic of Masculinity and Fatherhood. Going through the social problems that have escalated in recent years he demonstrated how the consistent negative stereotype of men in popular culture has contributed. With no positive role models people have grown up without seeing that the ideals of honesty and strength are attainable and necessary for a happy life.

This does not only affect the male population but also the concept of femininity as the complement of the masculine. Many women complain that there aren't any good men around. Everyone is affected by things like divorce, family breakup, crime, abortion, suicide, . . .

The most amazing thing is that as creatures in the image of God, we find our vocation is a reflection of God's perfections. As a mother is caring and nurturing, so is God. As a father is a protector and provider, so is God. Unfortunately relying on my memory (I usually write these from my notes) I'm sure I'm missing some good points but hopefully this gives you some idea. Fr. Minton is also involved in a Catholic men's movement called St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers. If anyone is interested I can pass you on.
