Alice in Wonderland...
Is the theme for February's Month of Softies. I know I should really do all my other craft projects but Claire has picked such a good theme this month I don't know if I will be able to pass it up. I have always loved the story and have even considered using it as a theme for a birthday party sometime (because you're never too old for theme parties!). So perhaps I will have to come up with a little something.

In other news, I have made my February To Do list. What can I say, I like to be busy. Speaking of busy, things are starting to pick up for me again at church. I have been trying to have a bit of a self-imposed break for quite some time now. Last year, particularly early in the year, I was involved in so many different things that I wasn't really enjoying any of them. With some help from my darling friend fat-J, I started to learn to say no. Now I am feeling mostly revitalised, and ready to get back into it again.

I have been teaching the K-2 class in January, and will continue that for this month. As much as I love the preschoolers, it is nice to have a break from them. They are a lot more work, and require a lot more patience. So I am quite content to work with the infants class for awhile, which usually consists of anywhere between 8 and 11 students.

We have also started a mentoring group for the teenage girls. It is being run by mum, LJ and I and we had our first monthly meeting last Saturday. The girls range in age from 12 to 17, which gives us quite a diverse group. I wasn't sure how well the age mix would go, especially given that their "mentors" are 19, 23 and 40-something. But I think it was really successful. We did a self-analysis activity and I was surprised by how open and honest the girls were with each other and with us. So I think this is going to be a really good growth experience both for the girls we are mentoring, and for the three of us as leaders. I am excited to see how God will use our time together for our common good.

I have also volunteered to be on the Camp Toukley committee, as this year we won't have campaigners to help us run the camp. In a way, I think it will be good to have a bit more input from the congregation. In the past I have felt like the weekend was almost viewed as an escape for parents from their kids. This meant that the campaigners always got "dumped" with the kids, and the adults usually sat in a room talking or playing games. I would love to see the whole thing become more family oriented, and have the kids do some more adult things, as well as the adults doing some of the recreational stuff the kids usually get to do. So I think it will be good to be part of a committee and see how it all comes together. It will certainly be different from previous years, but hopefully only in good ways.

Is that enough to keep me busy? Absolutely. Is that all I'm going to be doing? Probably not. It's unsure yet whether or not we will have another VBS this year, but if we do, I will be on the directing team again. Which means I need to find out, as really plans should already be well under way. And that singing group Scott and I have been talking about for a very long time may finally happen. A few other people have expressed interest, so now we need to just set a time, and go for it.
