"If I was able to see further, it was only because I stood on the shoulders of giants" - Sir Isaac Newton

Everywhere will tell you that Sir Isaac Newton was born on the 4th of January 1643 this date has been corrected because when Isaac Newton was born the Gregorian calendar had not yet been invented so in fact Isaac Newton was born on Christmas Day 1642 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. He was born into a family of farmers but never knew his fathers as his father had died in October 1642, 3 months before Isaac was born. Although Isaac's father was quiet wealthy he was completely uneducated and could not even sign his own name.

When Isaac was 2 years old his mother remarried a minister from a nearby village. Isaac was then left in the care of his grandmother. He was basically treated as an orphan and did not have a very happy childhood. When his stepfather died in 1653, his mother, half-brother and two half-sisters came back to Woolsthorpe and lived with Isaac and his grandmother. Shortly after this Isaac began attending the Free Grammar School in Grantham. His school reports described him as 'inattentive' he was the eldest of his half-brothers and half-sisters so his mother took him out of school and got him to manage her affairs and her estate. He soon showed that he had no talent, or interest in managing an estate.

In 1660 Isaac was allowed to return to the Free Grammar School in Grantham because his uncle had convinced his mother that Isaac should prepare for entering university and that it was the right thing to do. This time Isaac showed more motivation than the first time he went to school and went onto Trinity College Cambridge. He was older than most the students there and despite his mother's wealth he was a sizar. A sizar was a student who had an allowance toward college expenses in exchange for acting servant to other students.

According to Abraham de Moivre, a close friend of Isaac, Isaac's interest in mathematics began in Autumn 1663, when he bought an astrology book at a fair in Cambridge and found that he couldn't understand the mathematics in it. He read many books on algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Although his progress was said to be not particularly good, Newton was elected a scholar on the 28th April 1664 and received a bachelor degree the following year. By 1666 Isaac had early versions of his 3 laws of motion. In 1668 he built the first reflecting telescope the same year he was elected for a major fellowship. In 1669 he became a professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. He was elected a fellow of the Royal society in 1672 but after having an argument over some optical results with Robert Hooke he left the Royal Society.

In 1679 Isaac's Mother died after this Isaac withdrew himself from everyone and spoke to as little people as possible.

After suffering a nervous breakdown in 1693, Newton retired from research. In 1969 Isaac left Cambridge to become a Warden of the Royal Mint and in 1699 he was made master. In 1703 he was elected president of the Royal Society and was re-elected every year until his death. He was knighted in 1705 by Queen Anne he was the first scientist ever to be knighted.

He died on March 31, 1727 in London.
