Our Story
Let's get things growin'! Over the past two years, Fairview Elementary School teachers have worked to obtain a "nutrition education site coordinator" to start a garden outdoor classroom through the Hayward Nutrition Learning Community Project.  Their dedication to nutritional programs such as "Math In The Garden," "Botany On You Plate," and "Harvest Of The Month" paid off in the spring of 2007 when Mr. Matt arrived.  Since then he has been doing what he can, with the help of students, teachers, and community members, to build Fairview Elementary their dream garden on this washed out little hill.  You can help too! Contact Mr. Matt to find out how.

Where We Do What We Do
Hayward, CA is a city of about 123,000 people located south of Oakland along the San Francisco Bay.  The modern city of Hayward was forunded in 1852 by William Hayward who bought 40 acres in the downtown area.  Fertile soils and a temperate climate helped both its population and fruits and vegetables grow.  Although Hayward, which was once known as "Apricot City," has lost most of it's agricultural space to development, we're trying to keep that legacy alive at Fairview Elementary and throughout the Hayward Nutritional Learning Community Project schools.
