The Fairground neighborhood was recognized by the City of Des Moines in 1996 and designated in 1997. That year it was recognized as the Fairground Neighbors for Community Improvement Residents were concerned about increased crime, a decline in home appearance and a lack of pride in their neighborhood. Since then, the neighborhood has worked to:
Clean up debris
Establish a Designated Investment Fund with Iowa State Bank. This fund allows customers to earmark their deposits for use in a loan pool for home improvements.
The Fairground neighborhood houses the Iowa State Fairgrounds, where close to one million people visit each year. The neighborhood has been given a Neighborhood-Based Service Delivery status.
Children do well when their families do well,
and families do better when they live in supportive neighborhoods.
