The Great Khemri
Assembly
Part One: An Undead DIY Project (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Pinning)
It all started with the figures shown above and their brethren, who arrived as seen as a birthday present from my friends Niel (of Battle Gothic Fleet notoriety) and his wife Deborah. The team was great (assembled, painted well and a team in which I was interested even if it wasn't 'official' yet). Only problem was that the team for playing purposes really should have 4 mummies, not the two in the pack and a couple more skeleton linemen just in case. No complaints really, just me grousing to myself about how I would assemble a team that could come out from their tombs and have a good chance of winning. Now to just get my hands on another set (another complete team is far cheaper than wading through the boosters).
I guess the saying 'be careful what you wish for' can be taken literally from time to time. One morning, due to a bit of wrangling with GWUK mail order, my friend Angie had the above box sent to my doorstep. Opening it up was like looking at a Meccano without any nuts or bolts. I did the sensible things - called Angie to thank her for the gift and then called Niel to ask him what he did to put the *%* things together... (and apologize profusely for not thanking them enough for the team previously. After all, who knew what these guys were like based upon the other teams available?)
The picture to the left shows what the parts looked like coming from the package. Note the amount of little bits of white metal from the vent holes of the molds and the chunky metal sprues with which the pieces are cast. The only figure 'ready to go' with minimal work is the mummy (bottom left). Now GW has a history of not being completely accurate with their packaging to put things mildly. They will put things right if you give them a bell though. I did an inventory and thankfully everything was present and corrent. On to clipping and filing.
