The Farmington Area Historical Society is an active organization whose purpose is to inform the public, educate the FAHS members, and involve the communities of Castle Rock, Empire, Eureka, and Farmington which comprise the Farmington area.

Our focus is people, and families, and the communities they created by their homes, their neighborhoods, the schools, the churches, the businesses, their community groups, and the municipal and township governments they created to serve them.

Every February we have our Winter Presentation meeting which is open to the FAHS members and the public who are hardy enough to come out and brave the cold.

Our March Businesses meeting is open to FAHS members.

April ushers in the spring issue of The Retriever, our informative newsletter.

In May our membership meeting is a Presentation Meeting open to the FAHS members and the public. Our  encore presentation of "Augustus Gauger: A Pictorial History of His Work" will be given in the Farmington Library Community Room at 6:30 pm. Contact us for more information.

June warms up with our annual Ramble ‘Round Farmington Bicycle Tour that is free to FAHS members. A modest fee is charged to the public.

We keep cool in August at the County Fair in Farmington with our sister Chapters of the Dakota County Historical Society. You can speak with the experts of Dakota County history at the County Historical Society’s booth at the fair.

Our September Annual Meeting is a big event. Members of the County Historical Society and its Chapters are invited to celebrate with us as we reflect on our several successes and occasional flop of the past year. We present the Benita Devney History Award and the Oculus Award at the meeting. The fall issue of The Retriever is also made available.

Cold, dark November gets brighter as entries for the Farmington Area Historical Society’s annual "Farmington Ablaze in Lights" competition. The competition is open to residents of Castle Rock, Empire, and Eureka Townships, and the City of Farmington. "Ablaze in Lights" was created in 1994 after receiving requests from residents to have a community holiday lighting competition. The theme of "Ablaze in Lights" blends the celebration of the holidays with a bit of Farmington’s history. The "Ablaze" part of the competition commemorates the Great Fire that destroyed most of the downtown.

In December judging of the "Ablaze in Lights" competition is completed with the winners receiving cash prizes for their efforts.
