The purpose of the Farmington Area Historical Society (FAHS) is to inform, educate, and involve the community of the history - the stories - of the Farmington area. Stories about the past. That is what history is. Research, publications, presentations, and tours are some of the ways the FAHS works to magnify and illustrate Farmington area history. Having a broad mission with several goals and objectives, the FAHS is not limited to a certain time period or theme. The FAHS concerns itself not only with the past, but with the present as well - from prehistory to today - that is the FAHS timeline. Every community - and the Farmington area communities are no exception - has its rules and regulations. These rules and regulations in the form of laws and ordinances express a community’s norms. These norms help to develop a community’s personality and traditions. In time these traditions take the form of stories about community groups, individuals and events. Much of our initiation into the norms, our becoming suited to the community, occurs through the acquired knowledge of these stories. And it is these stories, this history of the Farmington area, we wish to share with you. |
