Slip Away
Not so very long ago
and not so far away,
I wandered lost and lonely
My dreams seemed to have slipped away.
My life had been a fantasy,
I thought that it would last.
But egos came and sundered
everything I had.
Life became so cruel.
My dreams seemed all but gone
How was I suppose to carry on?

I found myself surrounded
by the empty shells of life.
The what-if's and wish I had's
were everywhere I went.
My spirit would not settle
for what life had to give.
I had to find a way
off this fruitless path
to save myself and my dreams
from the trap that we call life.
The paths were there before me
all I had to do was choose.
Ease that led to nowhere
or strife that led to joy,
I chose the harder of the two
and started on my way.

The path I chose was littered
with those who'd gone before.
Souls around me grasping
for the dreams beyond the door.
I knew that this would be
a rough and windy road,
but I knew I wouldn't have
to go the road alone.

Help was found along the way
in many different forms.
Some who had a gift and threw it all away.
Some who bravely stood
and weathered every storm
suffering through whatever life had thrown.
Through the years I've witnessed
many gifted souls
fighting the same fight as me.
Some have sadly fallen,
yet others journey on.
The lesson life has taught us
is to keep the faith alive.
Dreams will only come true
if you stand up and believe.
Dreams will only come true
if you stand and fight the fight.
Dreams will only come true
if you stand up and believe.
Believe... in your dreams.
