BASIC CONCEPT
NETWORK ARCHITECTURE
NETWORK TOPOLOGY

WHAT IS THE NETWORK??

Network is collection of computers and mobile devices connected together via
communication devices and tranmission media

COMPUTER NETWORK USAGE :

   1) Sharing an Internet connection among several users.
2) Sharing application software, printers and other resources.
3) Faciliting Voice over IP (VoIP), e-mail, video conferencing, messaging, and
other communications
applications.
4) Working collaboratively, such as sharing a company database or using
collaboration tools to create
or review documents.
5) Exchanging files among network users and over the Internet.

WHAT IS THE COMMUNICATION DEVICES??

A hardware component that enables a computer to send (transmit) and receive data,
instruction and information to and form one more computers
.

EXAMPLES OF COMMUNICATION DEVICES :

HUB
(transmit signals to all other ports a computers is connected to but only the intended recipients will accept the rest will ignore)

SWITCH
(transmit signal to only the intended recipients)

MODEM
(a device that enables a computer to communicate over analog networking media such as connecting the internet via telephone)

ROUTER
(a device that connects multiples network together)

REPEATER
(a device that enhance the weaken signal and repeat it as its originsl strength)

WIRELESS NETWORK INTERFACE CARD (WNIC)
(an expansion cards through which a computer connect to a network that provides wireless  data transmission)

NETWORK INTERFACE CARD (NIC)
(an adapter/expansion card that connect a computer to a network)

WIRELESS ACCESS POINT
(a device on a network that connects wireless devices to that network)

WHAT IS THE TRANMISSION MEDIA??

The materials or subtances capable of carrying one or more signals.

EXAMPLES OF TRANSMISSION MEDIA (PHYSICAL):

Twisted-pair Cable
Coaxial Cable
Fiber Optic

EXAMPLES OF TRANSMISSION MEDIA (WIRELESS):
Infrared
Microwaves
Cellular Radio
Broadcast Radio
Communication Satellite
Bluetooth
