Aluminium has replaced wood considered essential for architectural use.  It has gained access as material  used in the manufacture of furniture also.  Aluminium is not corrosive metal, is lighter in weight, and easy to handle, requires no seasoning like wood. It has gained considerable liking by the architects and builders alike. Doors and windows which give look as if made in wood most of the time are of aluminium with powder coating in wooden design. It has found its way into the kitchens, most of the utensils there are in aluminium.

Now with the beginning of the new  millennium Aluminium has found its way in to the car manufacturing plants. More and more automobile manufactures are changing over to this metal. Aluminum is abundant in the nature. It is lighter than other metals used in the manufacture of the automobiles. It is recyclable and can undergo several recycles without loosing its properties.  With proper alloying and suitable  heat treatment it can have strength as good as any other material.

That makes it the best suited material for making car body. Automobiles made out of this metal will be lighter  in weight hence will have better acceleration. Lighter cars consume lesser fuel therefore cheaper to run. Cars low in mass to space ratio will produce less pollution hence will be environment friendly. With new technology of making alloys and heat treating methods it is possible to produce very strong car bodies in aluminum.

The BMW displayed one such car all made with aluminium metal at a  display in an exhibition at Essen Germany. Most essential operation in the car assembly is brazing, welding and spot welding of sheet metal. With the advent of new techniques more and more manufacturers are planning cars in the lighter and so called Aluminium the material of future.
