| Very much bound to the above, ETHNOMEDICINE proposes to fill a gap in the contemporary reductionist view, in which sickness is simply a technical inconvenience whose solution depends on something external to the patient, something that can be “bought” or “consumed”. This view ignores the obvious transgressions in the biological, social, and emotional orders, and of course, rejects the humanistic implications and the evolutionary potential that disease can represent. |
| Elements like rituals, archetypes, group belonging, common goals, the symbolic, the sacred, etc. Are rescued and revived in order to recover the sense of being alive, fundamental in any authentic curative process. Ethnomedicine is therefore a third-world response in the right sense: primordial, reasonably accessible, and of a profound and multifaceted scope. |
AMERREKU
is, according to the shamanistic tradition, the name of America from the
Tierra del Fuego to Alaska before the arrival of the Spaniards. The name
means land of wind, green land, land of liberty, land of hope, and is also
the name of a project located in the Putumayo that hopes to gather the
inhabitants and empower them in the most pure curative teaching and knowledge.

Two annual events, which take place in the city of Leticia, Amazonas (chosen firstly because of its shamanistic importance, and secondly, for its security for people from within and outside of the country), focus on establishing AMERREKU’s plans and also on providing a place for ethnotherapies of chronic and degenerative diseases. | |
