| Sneak Peek
By Fable Knight The majority of Fable's tale takes place with your hero out of his teens and entering early manhood. However, before you can reach this world, you'll have to make it through your character's youth. In fact, if you want, you can be a total and utter jerk from the start. You simply play how you want. You want to beat up little girls in your first town? They cry and cry and eventually you get scolded, but hay you dont care. You can abuse people, steal stuff from their homes, break their property, slap guards, and even kill innocents. One early incident involves a boy being bullied. He begs you to scare off the bully, but the bully offers to let you join him in taunting the poor boy. If you want some evil points, start womping on the poor boy. In Fable there are always consequences for your actions. As an adult, if you attack anyone in a town in sight of a guard you will be fined. Refuse to pay the fine and guards will attack and attack and attack and attack. They'll call guards in from other towns just to get you out of town. The same thing happens if you break a barrel. After all, that's someone's property and they aren't gonna be happy with you breaking their things. You can go into many houses in Fable and search for items, but taking something is still stealing. For each evil or good deed you'll earn morality points. The better or worse the deed, the more you earn. If you've got talent, you can decapitate an enemy an d then play soccer with his head. Conversely, you can become the merciful one, who spares enemies when possible, helps even those who don't want to be helped, and offer gifts of charity to the impoverished. These things can be done throughout your journey in Fable. When a person sees you, it's not just your "alignment" that matters. Your appearance plays a factor in how others interact with you. If you've got a pitch black cloak, spiked gloves, and a sneer on your face, that will help increase your scariness factor. If you are renown for being good, people may actually follow you of their own and cheer you on. Others will offer passing comments. Women may swoon at your presence. If you've been bad, the guards will actually come up to you as you enter town and warn that they've got their eye on you. Reactive interactions come when you approach and choose to talk to people. Big Blue Box did a smart thing by having every character display one of three colored auras -- blue, green, or red. Blue means this is someone who has basically a passing comment to offer and no real info. Green is someone who has info, a quest, needs help, or just simply will offer you deeper interaction at that moment. Red is any enemy (and you can hold down the Left Trigger to target any civilian and make them glow red).People may not offer a certain quest if you are too good or evil for their tastes. Expressions (basicly the way you talk) are handled on the D-Pad and you'll gather dozens of them as your progress through the world of Albion. At first you get just a couple. You can laugh and fart, but you will learn a lot more useful expressions simply by interacting with the world. You'll learn to hit on girls (and guys), make sexy poses, offer a menacing growl, motion for people to follow you, flip the bird, say rude things about people, sneer, chuckle, compliment, and my favorite, the grind, where our hero asks, "Hey, baby, you wanna..." and then begins jack-hammering the air with his hips. Oh yes, this game has it all. |
