| After contacting AMARC I found THE GHOST to be in excellent condition and that although she had been put in long term storage her fate was unknown as to whether she would survive or be turned into a soda can. I embarked on a letter writting campain to every museum in the US including the USAF Museum but each time I was turned down. I was becoming disheartened about the whole thing, then while reading a magazine about the losses of the F100 in Vietnam low and behold, a 58-6837 was listed. This sparked my interest because I knew the serial numbers of the F100F and that North Amercian never made a 58 model with that number. Something was wrong. After more investigation and letter writting THE GHOST and I got our break. In June 1990 THE GHOST was Declared an Historical aircraft. My new mission; Find a home for THE GHOST. After 3 years of this THE GHOST looked like she was going to become a part of the desert. I made friends with a couple of people at Davis Monthan who understood my plight and how I felt about saving THE GHOST. No one wanted THE GHOST for display, she was old and F100's were not popular for displays, especially F models. Finally, desperate I tried one more thing by writting the USAF locator service and contacted one of her pilots from the Viet Nam era who was a former Misty Fac. I asked their help in saving the Ghost. After much correspondence and the help of one of her former pilots THE GHOST found a home. On Jun 2001 I was notiifed that THE GHOST would be dismantled and taken to Wright Patterson AFB Ohio to be restored and put on display. |
