The Journey of F100F 56-3837
THE GHOST and I pulled Victor alert  at Incerlik Turkey in 1961 for about five months after the Russians shot down Powers in May 1960.
Some of the Squardrons and Wings THE GHOST has flew in her 45 years.

The Ghost led another flight of four F100's from Nellis AFB across the Northern part of the USA and the North Atlantic to England in flight refueling all the way. They returned from England across the southern route by way of the Azores, landing at England AFB, Lousiana where I picked them up.

THE GHOST also flew Air Force Cadets from the academy at George AFB California for Falcon 1962 for 30 days, 3 flights a day. During the Cuban Missile Crises the Ghost flew round robins from Cannon AFB to Florida and back fully armed on patrol.
In October of 1962 I was transfered to Lakenheath AB England never to see THE GHOST again until 1998. I once again went back to F100 with the 35 TFW Phan Rang Viet Nam from August 1967 to August 1968. The losses of F100 were staggering, a total of 230 planes lost mostly due to ground fire .
During this time THE GHOST became a part of history serving in Viet Nam with the 416 TFS Phu Cat as a Misty Fac airplane.

Quoted from "Misty  Unofficial History"
"Misty" was the radio callsign used by the F100F Fast Forward Air Controllers (Fast FACs) during the Vietnam War."
