| Here's the latest update on Jerry Lawler and Stacy Carter leaving the WWF. Apparently, things had been building up for two weeks, culminating with Vince McMahon telling Jim Ross to fire Carter. Lawler left the building with her at about 5 p.m.after informing Ross of his intent to leave the company. Since Tazz was in New York, they used Jim Ross to work with Michael Cole on Smackdown tonight. Lawler has two years left on his WWF contract so he won't be able to go to WCW unless the WWF grants him a release. If the Federation had fired him, he'd be able to, but by quitting, he has his hands tied. One would think down the line that cooler heads would prevail being that Lawler really needs the WWF to stay a player in the business. It's not the old days where you could leave for six months when you got mad or were mistreated and then come back. Tazz will most likely be Cole's new partner for Smackdown. According to Dave Scherer, as recently as a few months ago, Lawler was either working without a contract or was about to have his WWF deal expire, and sent word through channels to WCW that he would be open to considering an offer from them. WCW was in turmoil with the sale upcoming though, so no offer to Lawler was made at that time. |
