He grew up in London with Kay as Turan left when he was younger.
People obviously recognised his talent as he was accepted into stage school at 15. He used to have a band with his cousin when he was about eight but they were "rubbish" He played the keyboard and wrote songs. (thanks to RitaGS for that info!)
Abs was a huge fan of Michael Jackson when he was younger, and once wrote him a 10 page long letter! His mum also used to dress him up like him.
If you're wondering how Richard came to be 'Abs' well his family used to call him that (shortened version of Abidin, his middle name) or AB and he stuck with it until his 5ive days. This was very handy as there were two Richards in the band (Abs along with Richard Neville)
5ive broke up September the 27th 2001, to the shock of many fans. They announced it live on MTV and said that it had just come to a "natural end" and that they were still the "best of friends"
