My Interests
Sports
Basketball
I must confess that I am a huge basketball fan.
This brings back memories of my summer vacations spent at my maternal
grandmothers house. It is in her neighborhood that I learnt to play and
eventually love the game of basketball. At that time I was still in primary
school. I continued to play basketball at my high school and was eventually
selected as point guard for three years on the school team. I captained the team
during my last season on the team. My favorite basketball player is Ervin
Magic Johnson.
Cricket
Cricket has
its origins in England and it is a bit similar to baseball. Growing up in the
West Indies, I have been playing cricket since I was a young boy. Moreover, I
would clear my schedule whenever there were international matches featuring the
West Indies team. I maintain vivid memories of Curtly Ambrose
destroying England on their black wash tour of the Caribbean. In addition, I
was transfixed to the television screen the day when Courtney Walsh
took that last wicket Down Under to cause the tied test match between Australia
and the West Indies. However, no one in the cricket world can forget when Brian
Lara broke the test individual batting record (375) in 1994 in
Antigua against England and when he broke it again (400) at the
same ground against the same team in 2004.
Soccer
Soccer is another game
that has always captivated my attention. I kept abreast of all the major
international soccer leagues such as the Seria A in Italy where I supported
AC Milan, La Liga in Spain where I cheered for Barcelona,
the Bundesliga in Germany where I supported Bayer Leverkusen,
the Eredivisie in Holland where my team was Ajax and finally, the
Premiership in England where my allegiance was with Aston Villa.
My favorite soccer players at the moment are Drogba, Ruud Van Niestleroy, Dwight Yorke and Ronaldo.
