Once Upon A Time...
Once upon a time
Children didn't live in fear
They didn't die
for hunger
They didn't shed a tear
They played stickball in the streets
They were always safe at home
They didn't have to be afraid
They were never left alone
They were not killed before their birth
Or shaken to their death
They did not die before a chance
To take a single breath
No one ever hit them
Or called them a mistake
No one screamed in the room next door
As they lay in bed, awake
They didn't take their guns to school
And take each other's lives
They didn't have to fight alone
Or struggle to survive
They didn't run away from home
Away from all their pain
And when they took their own lives
They didn't die in vain
They all believed in fairy tales
That some day would come true
If your search your own forgotten past
I think you believed them too
I beg you, please remember
What has happened is a crime
Because children were still innocent
Once upon a time
