About Existential Jewelry

Existential is brought to you by one Miss Cara Mia DiCostanzo.

Sick of searching fruitlessly for a summer job, I decided that I could just give in and get down to it. I'd already started chasing after other long pushed back desires, like working on an online comic and learning how to cook more diverse dishes. I realized that there was a niche into which I could comfortably slip with my ideas, creativity, and knowledge of what my sort of people wanted.

So why not a jewelry store?

I've always wanted to have a little boutique with jewelry and clothing, all made exclusively by myself. The clothing is currently an out of reach option as far as time and money is concerned, so... jewelry!

I design pieces which I would love to wear or that I know others would enjoy. There are many great jewelry stores out there, both online and offline... but often times the prices are outrageous. Who wants to pay one hundred dollars or more for a simple gemstone necklace? I knew I could do better, for cheaper, and still create beautiful works of art.

Because every piece of jewelry I make is in fact a work of art.

I want every person who wears a piece of my jewelry to enjoy the look, feel, and emotion behind it. Of course it's not all so deep as it may sound. One pretty trinket is sometimes just as good as another - but I'm rather partial to mine. And I'd be tickled pink if you were too.

So... why "Existential"?

Ex.is.ten.tial: Adjective
1. Relating to human nature - concerned with or relating to existence, especially human.
2. Crucial in shaping individual destiny - in the context of existentialism, involved in or vital to the shaping of a person's self-chosen mode of existence and moral stance with respect to the rest of the world.
3. Asserting existence - governed by the existential quantifier and thus asserting the existence of something by anything that there is at least one object that possesses the properties specified.

The idea of existentialism is the idea of freedom... though also of fear - of death, of reality, of truths we do not wish to acknowledge. It is the very idea of what it is to be human. Art is one of the main things which makes us human, for all cultures and societies of the world create art in one form or another.

I've included several quotes from famous existentialist thinkers on my pages.

This is my shout out to human existence, as it were.

My art makes me human as much as my humanity creates my art.
