ExFL Week 2 games postponed... The NFL has announced that all week 2 games have been postponed because of Tuesday’s attacks on our nation.
There is no word if these games would be made up at the end of the season. We have been informed, however, that our fantasy games for week 2 will not be made up. Here is the message that the NFL sent to us just in case you didn’t get a chance to see it: “All Fantasy 2001 Leagues will stick to the schedule outlined in the rules. This means your league's matchups scheduled for this weekend will be cancelled and not made up, so your team will have 13 regular season matchups instead of 14. Your league's playoffs will begin with NFL week 15 (games of Dec. 15-17) and end with NFL week 16 (games of Dec. 22-23), as stated in the rules.” In times like these, it is easy to see how secondary and insignificant sports really are. As of last Tuesday, our lives were changed forever. No longer will we be able to go into a high rise and not wonder, “what if”. No longer will we be able to board an airliner and not look suspiciously at the other passengers around us. And for the first time in my life I know each time I take a seat in a football stadium full of spectators, I won’t be able to keep the thought of “chemical warfare” from crossing my mind. We do have one thing going for us, though. We live in America. And as Americans we have always refused, and will continue to refuse, to live in fear. I have complete confidence that our government and military will root out and eliminate the animals responsible for this weeks atrocities, and any others that are considering doing something similar in the future. And then maybe only then, will we ever be able to return to a semblance of the way things used to be in our country. Personally, I’m trying very hard to get back to living life the way I did before, if that’s even possible. I’m somewhat relieved, however, that this weeks college and NFL games were cancelled, because I’m just not ready to be entertained yet. I’m sure some of you may feel the same way. I plan on spending the weekend with my wife and three year old son, and reflecting on how much we all take living in the United States and life in general for granted. The hardest part for me this week, though, has been trying to regain my sense of humor. I just haven’t been able to find anything humorous about anything this week. Those who know me well, realize that’s practically impossible. As things begin to settle down over the weekend, however, I should be able to return before next weeks games and continue to add a little stupidity for us all to enjoy in our little fantasy world here in the ExFL. I’ve always believed that humor is the greatest medicine in a world that can be so cruel. See you all next week – Rich
