    Elliot Lake is located in the scenic area of East Algoma and close to the northern shores of Lake Huron. The community is a leader in Retirement Living, having developed a first class Retirement Living Program following the closure of the mines in the community. Elliot Lake has also developed the tourism industry including state of the art skidoo trails, walking and hiking trails, and camping opportunities. Surrounded by multiple lakes and forests, the community is a haven for summer and winter sports, recreation and leisure all within a 20 mile radius of the community.

    With a population of 14,500 and a catchment area of 4,000, Elliot Lake is centrally located between Sudbury and Sault Ste.-Marie, and serves the needs of the people of the North Shore. Elliot Lake was founded as a mining community in 1956, and developed into one of the largest uranium centres in North America. With the changing markets and decreased demands for uranium, the mining industry no longer exists in our community. Due to the vision and creativity of the mining companies and municipal officers, Elliot Lake Retirement Living was founded, attracting seniors and retired persons to our community.
The Deer Trail
This 120-kilometre triangle route stretches around the City and is a must for all visitors. The Deer Trail promises some of the most beautiful, unspoiled landscapes of the north and hosts a variety of outdoor recreational activities year roundd. Whether your interest is driving, canoeing, cycling, hiking, skiing, backpacking, rock hounding, nature studies or swimming. The Deer Trail has more than you need. Rustic lodges and campgrounds are located throughout the area and offer a wonderful base for all outdoor sports, or simple relaxation.

The Fire Tower Lookout
The Fire Tower Lookout is a replica of a Fire Ranger's Lookout and provides a stunning 360' panoramic view of the area, including the North Channel of Lake Huron, Manitoulin Island and U.S. mainland. Located minutes from the City Centre, the Fire Tower Lookout is accessible by, car, bike or foot in the warmer seasons and by snowshoes. skis or snowmobile in the winter.

Mississagi Provincial Park
Mississagi Park is an idyllic retreat in the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Not far from the north shore of Lake Huron and the Trans-Canada Highway, Mississagi is an unspoiled Natural Environment Park, undeveloped except for its campground area and a number of well marked hiking trails.

Elliot Lake Nuclear and Mining Museum / Canadian Mining Hall of Fame
The museum traces the history of the area, from early native settlement to logging, through the small cycle of its uranium mining industry from its origins to its state-of-the-art closure. Central to the exhibit, the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame displays portraits of individuals who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in the mining industry. Local artwork compliments this celebration of the life and soul of the community.

Sherriff Creek Wildlife Sanctuary
Located within Elliot Lake, this development offers well-defined trails, marshes and forested areas. which offer superb opportunities for birding and wildlife viewing.

Fishing
There are more than 4,000 lakes surrounding Elliot Lake and dozens of them, some over 200 feet deep, hold the largest stock of lake trout in Ontario. Speckle and rainbow trout, bass, pike and pickerel are also plentiful. During the winter months, ice fishing is extremely popular in Elliot Lake, not only, in the immediate area, but also on the more remote lakes, which can be accessed by snowmobile.

Hunting
Moose, deer, and bear are the primary big game species in the area and many animals are harvested each year. Ruffed grouse is the major game bird and waterfowl is abundant. Many local outfitters offer hunting packages throughout the season.

Canoeing
Canoeing has a special magic in this paradise of nature. Routes are mapped that can take two to five day's to complete and canoeists can often explore part of these routes on day trips. If you don't have a canoe, you can rent one locally.

Hiking
There are hundreds of hiking, walking and backpacking, opportunities along the Deer Trail. The area boasts some of the most magnificent and geologically significant rock formations in the world, not to mention abandoned logqing camps and mines from a bygone era. The 4.900-hectare Mississagi Provincial Park can be accessed from the trail and has six nature trails ranging from 1/2 kilometre to 25 kilometres. Immediately south of Eillot Lake lies the well known Voyageur Hiking Trail, which is part of the provincial network, planned eventually to go around all the Great Lakes.

ATVing
Elliot Lake offers hundreds of kilometres of uncongested wilderness bush trails through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Northern Ontario. Our extensive trail network provides lodge-to-lodge connections suitable for day trips, overnight stays or extended trips that may last 3-5 days.

Cycling

The Deer Trail has well paved roads and many cycling trails throughout its forests and lakes. The air is clean, invigorating and free from pollution. The area is as perfect for a planned cycling holiday as it is for an impromptu afternoon ride.

Boating and Sailing

Boaters, in crafts of all types and sizes can explore fresh water lakes intertwined with rivers that are accessible from Elliot Lake itself, north of the City on Dunlop Lake and south on Depot Lake. Two new boat launches have opened on Esten and McCarthy, Lakes.

The North Channel Yacht Club, 30 kilometres south of the City on Lake Huron's North Channel, accommodates both power and sailboats. The club has excellent harbor amenities including a clubhouse shower facilities, a gas and diesel fuel station, pump-out facilities and convenient winter storage. Heralded as the third best fresh water sailing area in the world, the North Channel, a 112 by 26 kilometre corridor of upper Lake Huron, is one of the best cruising grounds in the North America.

Golfing
Elliot Lake's Golf and Country Club offers a challenging 9-hole course. It has recently undergone extensive renovation and is planned, eventually to become an 18-hole course.

Beaches
Right in town are two sand beaches on the shores of Elliot Lake. The waters are warm, crystal clear, and perfect for recreational or competitive swimming. There are miles of lakeside walking paths and children's play areas.

Snowmobiling

The City of Elliot Lake, which alone offers 400 kilometres of perfectly groomed trails that link into the Trans Ontario Provincial (T.O.P.) trail system. serves as a hub for a much larger network of approximately, 1,350 kilometres of trails to the north, south, east and west. Located in the heart of the Canadian Shield, this area offers snowmobilers both the challenges of high hills and sharp corners plus breath taking scenery that can be viewed from countless lookout points. In addition, sledders enjoy the convenience of "ride to door" access to fuel, repairs, washroom facilities and an abundance of restaurants and very affordable lodges.

Skiing
Mount Dufour Ski Hill located within the City itself, is 315 feet high, has a quad chair lift and downhill runs for all levels of ability.

There are many, cross-country skiing trails in and around the City, many of which are groomed. The City's Public Works Department and the Elliot Lake Snowbirds operate and maintain trails that challenge the novice and expert alike.

Curling
The Deer Trail Curling Club offers five sheets of ice and full clubhouse facilities. It is open to the public on a 'Pay as you play basis.

Pool
The municipal pool located behind the high school offers many programs from swimming lessons to distant swim sessions and therapeutic work outs. Recently a new whirlpool and fitness area have been added.


The city also maintains the Centennial Arena and numerous outdoor rink pads, soccer fields and ball diamonds.
