| The Mother of all Thunderstorms 09-18-04 near Anza, CA While out at a dark sky site star party near the town of Anza, I noticed that the horizon was continually lighting up almost like the flickering of a huge candle. As I came around the side of the host of this gathering's house, I saw the most amazing thunderstorm I have ever seen rising up about 5-10 degrees above the horizon. With 8-10 lightning bolts going off per second, it looked like the Wrath of God! Canon 300D and photo tripod The first image is a stack of 2 frames, and the second is a stack of 5, all at ISO 200. |

| Incoming Storm 10-13-06 Laguna Beach, CA Canon 300D, Tamron 17-50, f/2.8 Images at 17, 30, and 50mm All at 30 sec, f/2.8 at ISO 100 My friend Rod and I, along with a couple of Rod's friends, decided on short notice to got out to "Top of the World" in Laguna Beach to catch what would probably be the last decent lightning display of the year. We weren't disappointed. This storm was about 20-30 miles west of us - well out over the ocean - and at its peak we were seeing around 6-8 flashes per minute. Seeing the anvil-shaped stormcloud set against the stars and the lightning flases refecting off of the water was an utterly gorgeous sight! |
