Other Astrological Information

Definitions

Apogee:
the point at which the Moon, in its orbit,
is furthest from the Earth.

Equinox:
either of the two times each year
(as about March 21 and September 23)
when the sun crosses the equator and day and night
are everywhere of equal length.

Neap Tide:
a twice-monthly tide of minimal range that occurs when
the earth, sun, and (quarter phase) moon
are at right angles to each other, decreasing the
total tidal force exerted on the earth by approximately 20%.

Perigee;
the point at which the Moon, in its orbit, is closest to the Earth.

Solstice:
either of the two points on the ecliptic at which its distance
from the celestial equator is greatest and which is
reached by the sun each year about
June 22d and December 22d.

Conjuction:
two planets withing the same sign or less an 10 degrees apart,
favorable or unfavorable according to the nature of the planets.

Retrograde:
Retrograde motion is the apparent backward movement
of a planet as it journeys around the sun.

Sextile:
a pleasant, harmonious aslpect occuring when
two planets are two signs or 60 degrees apart.

Square:
a major negative effect resulting when planets are
three signs from one another of 90 degrees apart.

Trine:
planet four signs or 120 degrees apart, forming a
positive and favorable influence.

Quincunx:
a mildly negative aspect produced when
planets are five signs or 150 degrees apart.

Opposition:
a six sign or 180 degree separation of planets generating positive
or negative forces depending on the nature of the planets involved.

Cardinal signs mark the beginning of each new season, active.

Fixed signs represent the season at its height, steadfast.

Mutable signs herald a change of season, variable.
