chapter 02
The next day.
"Who the hell is calling me? They should know I'm sleeping." She said outloud to herself.
"Hello?" She said
"Is this Brooklyn?" The person asked
"Yes."
"Hi, it's JC."
She could tell he was smiling.
"Oh hi." She sat up. "What's up?"
"Nothing much...you?"
"How'd you get my number?"
"I called the front desk and asked for you and it was a guy who answered, he said you weren't in but he'd give me your house number, so he did and I called you."
"That's Gary. Damn him, he's not supposed to do that...not that I didn't want you to call but it's policy, for privacy reasons."
"Yeah I understand. So what are you up to for today?"
"Um..." She yawned. "Probably nothing. I have a class at 3."
"Were you sleeping?"
"Yeah sorta."
"Oh I'm sorry for waking you up."
"It's alright. Your calling is a good excuse."
He smiled.
"That's good to hear. What time did you get off last night?"
"2. I got home about 2:30."
"Damn woman. Are you still tired?"
"Not really. I'm waking up now."
"Good would you like to go to lunch with me before your have to go to class?"
"Sure." She smiled. "Let me get dressed and I'll call you back."
"Okay." He gave her his number and she hung up with him to go take a shower.
After she got out of the shower she began to get dressed. While wandering around the house she was thinking about JC. Ever since yesterday she couldn't get her mind off of him. He was there at work, he'd come downstairs to the lobby to get something to eat instead of calling for room service. He was always there. She even dreamt about him. And it had only been one day.
"You've got to chill Brooklyn. Don't get your hopes up." She thought to herself. "You just met him, he's just a regular guy who happens to be a famous popstar. Great. Just go for the one who is going to never be around...Don't expect too much or nothing at all." She thought.
She picked up the phone and called JC.
"Hello?" JC said
"Hey it's Brooke."
"Hi."
"I'm ready to go. Do you want me to meet you somewhere?" She asked
"Sure. Where do you want to go to lunch?"
"Um...how about the Hard Rock Cafe?"
"Are you kidding me? I love that place." He said excited.
Brooklyn chuckled. "Ok, do you know where it is?"
"No."
"I'll just meet you at the hotel then and we'll go from there. It's not far from the hotel."
"Ok."
"I'll be there in about 20 minutes."
"Alright. Bye."
"Bye." Brooklyn hung up the phone and turned the lights off. Grabbing her keys and purse and leaving.
It was 10:00am. Brooklyn was at home, still sleeping. The phone rang, waking her up.
Brooklyn walked into the hotel. Gary was at the front desk. He was a tall man, skinny, brown hair, blue eyes, and very friendly.
"Brooke, what are you doing here this early?" Gary asked
"Came to meet someone." She said
"Oh, who?"
"Why should I tell you?"
"'Cause you love me." He smiled.
JC walked up to her when he exited the elevator.
"Hi, ready to go?"
"Yep."
Gary looked at the two.
"Gary, don't say anything. I'm just showing him around town." Brooklyn said
"Oh 'cause for a second I thought you two were..."
"No Gary." She cut him off.
"Oh."
"Bye Gary."
"See ya later Brooke. Have fun."
She waved goodbye. Her and JC walked towards the 16th Street Mall.
"Why did you tell him not so say anything?" JC asked as they walked down the street.
"Because Gary loves gossip and he talks a lot. And if he tells anyone that I'm hanging out with you. They'll all start bugging me about it, and it gets old." She explained.
"Oh."
As they walked towards the resturaunt they talked a little.
"So why are you here in Denver JC?"
"I came here to just relax and to record some stuff."
"Oh...relax here? You must be really busy if you think Denver is relaxing."
"Well yeah. That's until everyone finds out I'm here. I like going to the mountains to relax. It's beautiful there."
"Yes it is. I used to go up there all the time to visit my grandparents. I have my own cabin in Aspen. I go up there every winter with friends and just chill."
"See you do get out."
She laughed. "I guess so."
"I love Aspen. It's great there."
"Yeah, we'll have to go up there sometime so I can show you the cabin. Sometime soon."
"I'd like that." He smiled down at her.
She just smiled back.
They arrived at The Hard Rock Cafe and soon were seated. It was in the middle of the day, so not that many people were there, yet at least.
"So what are you here to record?" Brooklyn asked
"Just some material of my own."
"Just for the fun of it or is it going to eventually be something?"
"You sound like a reporter." He chuckled. "But for now it's just kind of for fun. I'm thinking about making my own album but I'm not sure yet."
"Oh, doesn't what his name...Justin? Have his own solo album?"
"Yeah he does. It was just released this month."
"Cool how exciting for him."
"Yeah we're all very proud of him."
She smiled.
2:00pm
Brooklyn looked at her watch. It was already 2.
"Oh my gosh, it's already 2."
"Really? Time flys." JC said
They were so into talking that they lost track of time. They both had learned so much about each other in just that short time. Brooklyn felt like she knew him forever.
"I had a great time JC."
"I did too." He smiled.
"Well I have to go back home and get my books."
"Are you going to make it on time?"
"Yeah. I'll be fine. It only takes like 20 minutes to get to my apartment and my school is here downtown."
"Oh ok."
"Do you want to come with me, then I'll drop you off back at the hotel?
"Sure."
They got up and paid for their check and soon left. They took the shuttle back towards the hotel so it wouldn't take them as long. They went to Brooklyn's car and soon left back to her apartment.
"This is a nice little place." JC said
"Thank you. I've lived her for about 2 and half years."
"By yourself?"
"I had a roommate at one time but she moved somewhere else."
"Oh."
Brooklyn went up stairs to grab her books from her room and came back downstairs.
"This apartment is so you. It's so cute." JC smiled.
Brooklyn smiled, "Thanks. Alright we gotta go before I actually am late."
"Oh ok, let's go then."
They went outside and to the car and left back downtown.
"What class do you have?" JC asked
"It's actually a study time but basically a class because it's required to go."
"What do you do then?"
"I just go to the library and study, like research on whatever I need."
"Can I go with you?"
"If you want to, you really don't have to." She said looking at him.
"No, I want to." He smiled at her.
"Okay." She said looking back at the road.
They got to the library and found an empty table in the back. Brooklyn pulled out her portfolio to show JC.
"This is my portfolio of all my work I've done." She showed him the pictures she's taken.
"Wow this is amazing...these are beautiful pictures, you did a great job!"
"Thank you."
"You seem to love doing this." He said looking at her. "You have that passion and devotion about it. I like that." He smiled.
Brooklyn smiled. "I do love doing this. I've always been interested in photography and it's been great being able to actually go out and take pictures of the world."
"And you say you have no life."
"This is my life."
As JC looked at the photos. He saw her in each of them. Her own sense of style. This was her. She was right, it's what she loved. Just like he had a passion for music.
"Have you ever had to go out of the country?"
"Actually yes, on a few assignments I had to, I went to England and Austrilla."
"Wow, they're both beautiful places."
"This last summer I got to go to Hawaii. That was awsome. I had so much fun. I brang a friend of mine."
JC smiled at her. She was so happy when she talked about her work.
