Age of Mythology's scenario editor promises to be easier to use than ever before. "In our previous Age games we basically provided the same editor that we used to create the campaigns; kind of as an unsupported bonus feature. But this time, the editor's getting the full treatment, it's going to be really powerful, user friendly, and we're trying to document everything carefully, so users will be able to just jump in and create their own content really quickly and easily." - Dave 'Ripman' Rippy Some of the new features of the editor are listed below: Editor features have rollover help boxes explaining their functions. Frequently used editor features can also be accessed via hotkeys. Many designers painstakingly create realistic looking terrain by adjusting the elevation in small spots all over the map. A flat map just doesn't look right. The AoM editor however, does this for you. With the click of a mouse, you can create random bumps with the brush, spreading realistic undulations in the terrain across the map just as easily as you would place a terrain type. These can then be smoothed out with another brush, creating gorgeous rolling terrain in the blink of an eye. Another time saver is the 'beautify' feature. It's no longer a painful matter of placing every map detail singly to produce a lush, detailed map. The 'beautify' brush allows you to choose an environment and then automatically add trees, rocks, and other scenery to the map, adding to the depth of your creation with just a few mouseclicks. AoM is going to offer a vast, exciting range of visual elements that can make a scenario more immersive. Waterfalls, rivers, cliffs and similar attributes can all be modified by the player instead of just being placed down with a pregenerated pattern. A host of new graphic elements; plants, trees, animals, rocks and the like will also be included in the editor, just another feature that allows Age of Mythology to create more realistic and detailed scenarios than ever before. Check out the screenshots page to see some of the eye candy that's featured in screenshots to date. In game cinematics are one of the biggest new features of the AoM scenario editor, allowing the designer to seamlessly drive a scenario's storyline in order to make the game more immersive. The scenario editor features the ability to manipulate weather effects such as snow and rain, day & night, and Age of Mythology's awe-inspiring god powers.
