STEWART-WARNER 21" CONSOLE
THIS WAS ANOTHER SCORE AT THE ETF CONVENTION AND SWAPMEET.  I BELIEVE STEWART-WARNER SETS ARE HARD TO FIND, SO I SNAGGED THIS ONE.  IT IS NOT RESTORED.  I HAVE NOT EVEN TAKEN THE BACK OFF.

AUG 2005:  THIS SET USES A 21AP4 METAL CONE CRT.  IT CHECKED GOOD.  I THINK I WILL DO THIS ONE SOON.

APR 2006:  I SOFT STARTED THE SET.  TO MY SURPRIZE, I GOT A PICTURE.  THE TUNER STRIPS ARE OFF.  THE CHANNEL ON THE KNOB DOESN'T MATCH THE  ACTUAL CHANNEL TUNED IN.  THIS IS AN EASY FIX, SINCE THE STRIPS ARE REMOVABLE.  THE SET WILL GET A FULL RECAP.  THERE ARE TWO ELECTROLYTIC CANS ON THE CHASSIS AND A COUPLE UNDERNEATH.  THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM, SO I WON'T HAVE TO RESTUFF ANY CANS. 

  FOR RESTORATION, I WILL USE MY 5AXP4 TEST CRT.  THE TEST CRT WILL GIVE ME A GOOD PICTURE FOR DIAGNOSING ANY PROBLEMS AFTER RECAPPING.  IT IS ALSO MUCH SMALLER THAN THE 21AP4.  I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TRYING TO BALANCE A LARGE TUBE.  I WILL ONLY REINSTALL THE METAL TUBE AFTER THE RESTORATION IS DONE AND IT WORKS TO MY SATISFACTION.

  THE PHOTOS SHOW THE 21AP4 METAL CONE CRT.  STEWART-WARNER PUT A PLASTIC COVER OVER THE METAL PORTION OF THE TUBE.  THE PLASTIC WILL BE CLEANED.  THE HEAVY RUBBER BAND WILL ALSO BE CLEANED.  THE TUBE MOUNTS TO THE CHASSIS.  ALL INSUALTORS MUST BE IMPECCIBLY CLEAN.  DIRT AND DUST COULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE ARCING AND POSSIBLE BURNTHROUGH.
HERE IS THE CRT WITH ITS INSULATING MATERIAL.  IT MUST BE REINSTALLED IN THE SAME WAY AS IT WAS REMOVED.
