| HERE IS THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CHASSIS. I WILL NOT RESTUFF THE ELECTROLYTIC CANS, BUT LEAVE THEM IN PLACE DISCONNECTED. IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM UNDER THE CHASSIS TO PLACE THE REPLACEMENT LYTICS. I FINALLY GOT THE TUNER CLEANED TO MY SATISFACTION. I USED A SWAB DIPPED IN TUNER CLEANER AND CLEANED THE WAFERS. AFTERWARD, I SPRAYED THE TUNER AGAIN. THIS WAS AFTER REMOVING THE TUNERS FROM THE MOUNTING. I ALSO DISASSEMBLED THE FINE TUNING GEAR ASSEMBLIES AND CLEANED, THEN LUBED. THE TUNER NOW WORKS PROPERLY. I DID HAVE TO ADJUST SOME COILS ON THE TUNER TO GET THE FINE TUNING WITHIN THE PROPER RANGE. BOTH TUNERS ARE NOW VERY SENSITIVE. I WILL ALSO NEED RO REPAIR OR REPLACE ONE OF THE DIAL LAMP SOCKETS. THE RIVET WHICH CONTACTS THE BULB HAD BEEN BROKEN OUT AND THE WIRE JUST STUCK IN THERE. THIS IS/WAS ONE OF THE MANY QUESTIONABLE REPAIRS I HAVE EITHER CORRECTED OR WILL CORRECT AS THE RESTORATION GOES ON. THERE IS A TUBE SOCKET ON THE CHROMA BOARD THAT I WILL REPLACE. THE TUBE FITS VERY LOOSELY AND CAUSES THE RED TO DROP OUT. I WILL OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT WHEN I ORDER THE NEW CAPS. I HAVE DECIDED TO REPLACE THE LYTICS AND RECAP THE SWEEP BOARD ONLY. THE COLOR (WHEN THE TUBE SOCKET IN QUESTION IS WORKING PROPERLY) LOOKS GOOD. THIS WILL BE A VERY EASY RESTORATION. JUNE 2007: I HAD TO REPLACE TWO OTHER TUBE SOCKETS. I HAVE ANOTHER CABINET AVAILABLE. THE FINISH IS RAIN DAMAGED. I MAY RELAQUOR IT AND PUT THIS CHASSIS IN THAT CABINET, AND JUNK THE ONE PICTURED HERE. THE ONE PICTURED HAS A FAKE FINISH ON MASONITE. IT IS SCRATCHED IN SEVERAL PLACES. AS SOON AS I RECAP, I'LL ADD MORE. 12 FEB 2005 UPDATE. I REPLACED THE ELECTROLYTICS AND THERE WAS A LOT OF IMPROVEMENT, BUT IT STILL HAS SOME BUGS. THE COLOR WAS WAY OFF. I FOUND A COIL ON THE CHROMA BOARD THAT NEEDED RESOLDERED. I ALSO FOUND THAT A PREVIOUS REPAIRMAN OR OWNER ATTEMPTED A REALIGNMENT. THE PICTURE WAS VERY SNOWY AND THE SOUND HAD WEAK VOLUME. THE FINE TUNING WAS ALSO WAY OFF. I REALIGNED IT AS BEST I COULD AND NOW THE PICTURE IS CLEAR WITH GOOD SOUND AND COLOR. THE HUE CONTROL HAS LITTLE EFFECT. I HAVE TO FIND OUT WHY, BUT THE COLOR DISPLAYS THE PROPER HUES. I DID REPLACE A TUBE SOCKET AND NOW THERE IS NO MORE FLICKERING. I ALSO FOUND SEVERAL QUESTIONABLE TRACES ON THE CHROMA BOARD, WHICH I CORRECTED. I SHOULD HAVE RECAPPED THE SWEEP BOARD. THE VERTICAL LINEARITY LOOKS GOOD, BUT IT DOESN'T FILL THE SCREEN. I FOUND SOME RESISTORS GREATER THAN 1 MEG IN VALUE. THESE HIGH VALUE RESISTORS TEND TO DRIFT UP IN VALUE. I WILL REPLACE THEM AND THE CAPS IN THE VERTICAL SECTION. THE SET (ON THE RIG) LOOKS GOOD OTHERWISE. I DID PUT THIS CHASSIS ON THE ROUND TUBE. THE TUBE IS NICE AND BRIGHT. NOW THAT THE COLOR ISSUE IS RESOLVED, IT WILL LOOK GREAT. SINCE I ONLY NEED 3 OR 4 CAPS AND A FEW RESISTORS, I WILL BUY THEM LOCALLY. I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH BLUE BEING DOMINANT AT ALL BRIGHTNESS LEVELS. THIS HAPPENS BOTH ON THE RIG AND ROUND TUBE. I FOUND A BAD FOIL TRACE ON ONE OF THE 6GU7'S. IT IS NOT SO BAD NOW, BUT IS STILL THERE WHEN I TURN THE CONTRAST CONTROL TO LOW. I STILL NEED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE A DIAL LAMP SOCKET. THAT SHOULD BE EASY. |
