Heart's Flag

Richard J. Harrison, 1985

The wind blows,
I breathe air never tasted before
While fiery eyes of red devour
The insistent hourglass.

I live still,
Life flows on through rapids
(To their delight) and emerges ruffled,
The heart's flag.
A soldier hesitates,
Spilt blood of another oozes lifelessly
Continuing a soul without soul
For an eternity.

I watch all,
As I am overcome by the feelings
And the solitude of the unfelt,
My body withers.
