Basil went to the vet today for one last set of xrays to make sure that the screws and plates and the knee look good. His surgery knee is a bit larger than the good knee so they just wanted to be extra careful. First of all, they did not have to sedate him to take the xrays and manipulate the knee. I really apreciate that they only use sedation as a last resort. They said he behaved very well and let them do whatever they wanted. The vet's first words to me were, "We found something interesting". I hate when they say that! She said the surgery looks greats: bone is good and the screws and plates are where they should be and there was no infection or fluid. But, they did find that a tendon on the same knee that sits in a groove but pops in and out. She thinks this may be why he sometimes limps or doesn't put full weight on the leg. I think it's also somewhat psychological. She says it's not painful, probably just feels a little weird when it happens. There is a surgery they can do but neither the vet or the orthovet would recommend it because 99% of dogs never need it. I'll just have to watch for a change in case it gets worse. So, overall it was good news!
