Well, this recovery is turning out to be a bit different than the first. Basil still isn't using the leg but continues to toe touch. He tries to use the leg when going up stairs, so that's good (we use a sling to help) and similar to the first recovery. I just worry because the first time, he used his leg right away. I plan to start passive range of motion exercises tonight and supplements tomorrow. He's been bending the leg more and accepting longer icing. He's figuring out how to lay down but it's still difficult, I think because he's only using 3 legs. I'm very pleased with the way the leg looks, swelling is less than I expected, this incision site is "beautiful" and there is very little bruising. That's all better than last time. The patch seems to be helping but I can tell when the time release starts to wear off. At least this time, he's resting these first few days...last time he was is normal self - hyper. I think he might start using the leg more once the patch is removed. He's also being very picky with his food. They gave him boiled chicken at the vet and now he won't eat his kibble until we mix in some boiled chicken. He actually went 24 hours without eating until we gave in. Boy, he was hungry. One of the side affects of the patch is reduced appetite...guess ours is picky appetite :) |
