Another week has flown (ok, crawled) by. Basil continues to improve. He is actually feeling too good. He's pretty sure he can run and play with no problem. Scares me to death! On Saturday, I dropped his leash to pick up and throw away his poo. He's usually very good on the leash even if I'm not holding it. Well, he tucked his butt and began to sprint right towards me! I screamed NO about 4 times. He came right to me and I gave him a great big hug. He doesn't understand why he can't do the things he used to do. That has to be one of the hardest things about this procedure. Anyway, he does not appear to be any worse for the wear (thank God!).

Other than that, he's his usual self. He actually occupied himself and let me get two scrapbook pages done. He must have known they were about him ;) He goes to the kennel/vet tomorrow morning and will stay the night while I attend a family baseball outing. This way he won't be alone all night and day since we already do that two times a week (with a little help from a pet sitter). Then on Wednesday morning, the vet and surgeon will sedate him and take xrays to see how the leg is healing. Hopefully it will be healed enough for us to begin short walks a few times a day. They say it takes 6-8 weeks for the bone to heal but Basil is the youngest dog they've performed this suregery on so I firmly believe he will heal faster than they expect.

I visualize the bone healing and I pray for healing every night. He is currently receiving Bach Rescue Remedy twice a day (I'm also using it twice a day) and I've just started him on Impatiens. I hope this will help him calm down. He also has a comfort zone plug in which I'm not sure is doing any good but they did say it takes about 4 weeks to take affect. I really do not want to use a sedative unless it's absolutely necessary to ensure healing. We'll see how our homeopathic rememdies go.

Basil's daddy is coming at the end of this week to see him for the first time in two months. They are both going to be so happy - I just hope Basil doesn't get too hyper. Daddy is also going to get a lesson in caring for Basil and I am finally going to get some sleep :)
