It's been 10 days since I've written but Basil is progressing remarkably well. His "blood bubble" went away but it did turn into a sore. Probably from him licking it when I was at work. I've been letting him off leash for brief periods of time and on Friday he got some extra freedom. We went down to the lake and he played in the water and on the beach. Then we came home and he played with Fossie (a wonderful yellow lab). He was no worse for the wear on Saturday so I gave him lots of freedom. Well, he ended up with a heck of a limp but he finally slept all night (more than 8 hours!). I let him off again for less time on Sunday and even less today. I really need to let him recouperate but he just seems so happy to be able to play. Tomorrow he'll have plenty of time to rest as I have plans for part of the evening. That will be good for him. It was so nice to see him have so much fun playing and running but I have to remember he needs to rest. I won't be sending him back to Doggy Day Care until after the Boxer Bash in mid-September. I want to give him some extra time and now that I know he can handle less exercise I don't feel so guilty. He loves his pet sitter who is now stopping by every day to take him for an afternoon walk! |
