| Scott got his start in NASCAR racing in the NASCAR late model divisions.From 1990-2000 he picked up 36 wins in the NASCAR late model division. He also picked up 2 track championships at Southern Nationals Speedway in Kenly,NC. In 2001 he joined Jim Smith's Craftsman Truck team and finished 5th in the standings. He got 5 wins, 14 top 5's, 16 top 10's and 5 poles that year. In 2002 He signed a contract with PPC Motorsports to drive their #10 NesQuick Ford in the Busch Series. He finished 10th in the standings and won Rookie of the year Honors. He picked up 2 wins, 8 top 5's, 13 top 10's and 2 poles. in 2003 he finished 6th in the NBS pointstandings. It was then time for scott to move on to the Nextel Cup series. He would be competing in MB2 Motorsports #10 Valvoline Chevy. He finished 5th in rookie standings and 29th in point standings. He picked up 1 top 5 and 2 top 10's. In 2005 he picked up his best finish of his carrer finishing 2nd at Michigan International Speedway. That year he finished 34th in standings with 2 top 5's and 4 top 10's. Riggs 1st year with Evernham Motorsports earned him 2 poles 1 top 5 and 7 top 10's and a 20th place in the points standings.
