| Ira Losco was born on the 31 st July 1981, she is from Sliema a small town in Malta. Ira took vocal training lessons till the age of 15, then started singing professionally at 16 years of age with the band �Tiara�. This meant singing at popular venues around Paceville, the heart of Malta�s entertaining business.� Tiara� also were awarded as �Best Band� at the university of Malta�s student festival in 1999. Her first entry in the �International festival of the Maltese song� won the FIDOF award,this being an award for the most promising artist and outstanding performance on stage, she also placed fifth. In year 2000, Ira entered the �Song For Europe Festival� for the first time placing both sixth and seventh with two songs. As a result, Ira was guest on a variety of television programs. She also, became a resident singer on Malta�s most viewed television program, which is broadcast every Sunday morning on the national television station. She is also one of the most prominent voices heard on numerous radio jingles, mainly �martini, �Yellow Pages� and others. In October 2000, Ira played the main part in an original Maltese musical �Rita�, the story of Saint Rita from Cascia. At the age of 19 years, Ira entered the �Song For Europe Festival 2001� with four songs this time. This was the only time a singer had competed with such a great number of songs. Ira placed: second, fourth, ninth and eleventh out of sixteen competing songs. She also won second and third place by the televoting system. Last August she won first place in the �Independence Festival 2001� and also placed third, she was competing with two songs. Two months after she placed second in the 'International Festival of the Maltese song�. Ira has represented Malta in the �Estrada Festival� in Zrenjanin Yugoslavia. She was also a guest singer on a show held in Sicily annually, which is broadcast live on �Antenna Sicilia�. Ira Losco is also the winner of the �Best female Singer � award at the �Malta Music Awards 2001�. She has just released her first single titled �Butterfly�, which shot to number two in the local radio charts. |
