32 songs competed in 4 Dutch pre-selections orgainsed by the two broadcasters, TROS & NOS. The eight best songs, two winners from every pre-selection competed in the National Final in Rotterdam on 1st March.
The winner this year was Esther Kathinka with her song One More Night. Esther also had a song in the UK Song For Europe but as soon as she won the Dutch Final cancelled her participation in the UK's final in order to compete in ESC for her own country.
Maltese composer Philip Vella together with Lyricisr Gerard James Borg partivipated in the Dutch Final with a song called Heatwave sung by popular Dutch Trio Ebonique. Heatwave placed 4th in the final night of the dutch preselection. Philip & Gerard were the brains behind last year's 7th Wonder sung by Ira Losco and Desire in 2000 sung by Claudette Pace, both for Malta.
