OUR WEB-BASED PROJECTS 2003*2006 |
School No.191Address: 1, Poiana Muntelui, Bucharest, Romania; Telephone/Fax: 0040.21.413.06.40E-mail: [email protected] or [email protected]Built in Bucharest, in 1965 our school is for both boys and girls aged 7 to 15. It has about 580 pupils in 26 classrooms and 35 teachers (11 for primary school) who are well-qualified and very committed to their job. Apart from our classrooms that are beautifully decorated we also have well-equipped laboratories where we can make experiments or watch educational videos and listen to audio-cassettes related to our curriculum. On 15th January 2003, thanks to our parents’ financial efforts and our teaching staff’s involvement the new IT Lab was inaugurated. It has 20 computers, modern furniture, a printer and a digital camera. Every year both the students and the teachers in our school do their best in order to get good results at the contests organised at different school subjects. So far, thanks to our committed teachers we have won a lot of prizes at Romanian, Maths, English, French, Physics, Biology, Geography, Art and Gym contests. All these achievements have brought us a very good reputation among the schools in Bucharest. Moreover, we regularly take part in charity activities such as gathering clothes and toys for the poor children or visiting old and sick people. International ProjectsTwo years ago about 25 of our schoolmates and their teachers had an e-mail correspondence project in English and French with an equivalent class from France (Francois Albert College) and their teachers. Each of our colleagues had a pen pal and they corresponded in English and French for one year. Although it was quite difficult for them to carry out that project as our school had only six computers available (without Internet access) then, they managed to send and receive 5 letters from one of the teacher's connection to the Internet. This activity provided them with a real sense of communication and intercultural awareness.
Since May 2002 we have been working on myEUROPE, a safe web based project that provides us with attractive and useful activities and helps us learn to share and understand European traditions and regional identity. Thanks to this project we not only practise our English but also develop our computer skills in a very enjoyable way. Moreover, it makes us be aware that we belong to Europe and Europe belongs to us. We have also participated in the Spring Day in Europe project, The Future of Europe and The First Day of Spring Weather . Since March 2003 we have been working on "Jr.travel page", a very interesting and attractive project run by Marie Ostroznik, the vice-president of the Grand Prix Cities Children's Foundation from Michigan US. Its objective is to provide specific travel information for children from various cities around the world. by the 7th and 8th grades
