Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie
As the chart below shows, Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie is the great x 5 grandmother of the
present Kings of Sweden and Norway, and the Queen of Denmark. She was
married to Vicomte Alexander de Beauharnais with whom she had two children.
After Alexander's execution in 1794, following the French Revolution, Josephine married
Napoleon Bonaparte and secured the future of her children. Her son,
Eugene, was made Viceroy of the United Kingdom of Italy and her daughter,
Hortense, married Napoleon's younger brother Louis (their son, Napoleon III, became
Emperor of the French 1852-1870). Unable to provide Napoleon with a child,
Josephine was discarded as Empress of the French in favor of Maria Louise of
Austria who gave birth to Napoleon Francois, Napoleon II, in 1811.
Josephine died at the age of 51, seven years before Napoleon's death in disgrace
in 1821. Her son, Eugene, married and had a child before he died -- Napoleon's
son, Francois, did not.
